The drug is presented in two dosages of 1 mg and 2.5 mg in a tablet. The daily dose of the drug is 10 mg, but it can be increased under the supervision of the attending physician. Tablets can be broken and dissolved under the tongue for the onset of a rapid effect. The duration of the drug is up to 10 hours.
The effect of Ativan is based on reducing the level of anxiety – a constant companion of suffocation, and a weak sleeping pills effect. The drug can be used as prophylaxis: it can reduce not only the severity but also the number of attacks of suffocation.
Ativan taking should be started with a minimum dose of 0.25 mg (1/4 tablet) 1-2 times a day, gradually increasing the dosage until the desired effect is achieved. If the attacks of suffocation or dyspnea are not of a permanent nature, then it can be used situational, with the development of an attack. If seizures disturb constantly, several times a day, then the remedy should be used consistently in the dose that the doctor picked up.
The drug should be used with caution with a simultaneous sharp increase in dyspnea and an increase in body temperature. As a rule, this condition requires an examination of the doctor and the appointment of additional drugs.
It is also important to remember that benzodiazepines belong to those drugs whose reception cannot be stopped abruptly. If they were used for more than 5 days, the dose reduction or cancellation should be done gradually – 30% every 2-3 days, as prescribed by the doctor.
